Travel Packing Guide for Globetrotters

Admit it. When you pack for a trip, you usually organise your things per bag that you use for specific places. For instance, you have your books and pens in one bag and sunglasses and sunscreen in another bag. We do this because we do not want to forget any items when we find ourselves rushing out to the door.

The reasons that work is because the items are made for specific situations. As for travelling, it is not that simple. You have to be three steps ahead and anticipate what you will need during the trip. So other than preparing for your travel insurance and flight schedules, you need to think about all kinds of scenarios that can happen on your journey. There may be items that you cannot afford to forget, like medication or other necessary documentation.

To help you with your packing, here is a simple guide that you can look over when you are thinking of essential items to pack.

Important travel documents

If you are travelling abroad and going to multiple places for a long time, this is incredibly important. You need to organise your travel papers in a way that you can retrieve each document without any problems. Place them in folders or envelopes and put labels on them. The documents that are usually needed include an original and photocopy of IDs (government issued or otherwise), visa/s, passport, medical certificate (if you need it), contact information of hotel or tour operator, reservation documents, transportation tickets, and emergency contacts.

If you can, scan those documents and save them on a cloud file so you can access them whenever you need to. Make sure that your passport and credit cards are not expired, renew them at once if you need to. Additionally, tell your banks that you will be going out of time and for how long so that they would not question transactions that you have made.

Carry-on bag

One of the things you need to prepare for is if your luggage get lost or accidentally shipped to another place. It does not happen as often, but you need to make sure you can respond to it if it does. Pack essential items in a carry-on bag that can help you cope with that scenario. You should have at least two sets of clothes, your passport, and personal IDs. Pack toiletries like soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, and sanitizers. You can even pack a sachet of shampoo and conditioner.

You can also pack gadgets just as long as it is not bulky; but if you brought your laptop with you, pack that in its laptop bag and not in the carry-on bag. Other items you can pack are books, magazines, a city guide, travel pillow, and a language guide. Most importantly, you should bring your medication with you.

Pack climate-appropriate clothes

The first thing you need to do when you are about to pack your clothes is to research the climate of the country you are going to. For instance, tropical climates are prone to rain showers as well, So look up what the normal weather is going to be on the time of your trip. Pack light and comfortable clothes, and those that can protect you from harsh climates. Remember that you can do laundry during your trip, so do not bring your whole wardrobe with you.

Packing can be fun if you know what to bring. So let this list guide you while you are loading up the bags!
