Did you know that there are six thousand Greek Islands? Of which only 227 are inhabited. But in all honesty, there are about nineteen that people are more familiar with. This makes the Greek Islands one of the best, diverse and most collective group islands around. Nestled in the Aegean and Ionian Seas these beautiful islands each have their quirky personalities and offer a holiday maker a different type of vacation. I thought it would be good to share with you a quick guide to some of the most popular islands. Maybe it will inspire you to consider one of them for next year.

The best place to party

If you want a luxury holiday with the entertainment factor, then look no further than the island of Mykonos. Once you have unpacked that case of yours, you can then head down to Paradise beach where you will find an array of lively bars and restaurants. One of the lesser known islands is Koufonissia. This island has far from a bustling vibe like Mykonos or Santorini but has become popular amongst Athenians and yachters who more up after taking in the glitzier islands. Famed for it’s low paced lifestyle you won’t find many cars on the island. But what you will find is a small community of locals enjoying the simple life. If you want some rest and relaxation then this island is the place to do it.

The best for the beaches

Head to the unspoiled north of the island of Zakynthos to enjoy some of the best beaches you will witness. Beautiful white sandy beaches adorned with crystal blue waters it’s the perfect idyllic spot for your next holiday. On the South-East of the island, you will find the Gerakas beach which has been protected from large-scale developments due to the loggerhead turtles breeding there. You may be lucky to catch a glimpse of some of the impressive wildlife.

The best for food

If you consider yourself a bit of a foodie, then look no further than the island of Crete. One of the more well-known Greek Islands you will find some of the best Greek cuisines on offer. The island also has an abundance growth of bananas and avocados, making this place rich in beautiful ingredients ready to cook up culinary masterpieces.

The best place to sample wine

If you love your wine, then head to the Robola winery on the island of Kefalonia. But don’t think this place is just for sampling some of the best wine around, that even features in the novel Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. Kefalonia is also well renowned for its beautiful beaches. Making it a popular destination for weddings and honeymoons.

The best place for scenery

Finally, if you have a thing for taking photographs, and are offer some beautiful scenery, then Santorini is the place to go. Beautiful backdrops of white buildings and bright blue seas will provide you with picture perfect opportunities everywhere you look.
