The decision to conceive a child is a wonderful thing. Bringing new life into the world and taking care of them is a brave decision to make, but many couples become discouraged after trying many times and seeing no results. Couples might worry because they’ll start to wonder if there’s any underlying issues or problems that are preventing it.
With a mix of natural remedies, cutting bad habits and maybe a treatment, there are many ways to boost the chances of conceiving a child. To assist in that journey, here are some of the most common ways to increase the chances of conception.
Stick to a Healthy Diet
Staying healthy can actually prepare a woman’s body for pregnancy. By having a good storage of crucial nutrients like protein and calcium, the body will be ready to conceive a child which increases the likelihood of it happening. There’s no diet to promote fertility, but eating foods like lean protein, dairy, healthy fats and fruits and vegetables is a good way of securing the chance of conception. It’s also a good idea to go easy on caffeine because it has been linked to a decrease in fertility in women. By sticking to a limit of 1-2 cups of coffee a day, the caffeine won’t affect the chances of a woman becoming pregnant.
Fertility Treatments
Depending on the state of the woman’s body it might be more beneficial to have certain treatments to conceive a child. In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a process by which the eggs are removed from the female’s ovaries and mixed with sperm from the male in laboratory culture dishes. The fertilisation takes place in the culture dish and is then transferred back into the uterus using a thin plastic catheter that is passed through the cervix. The transfer doesn’t require surgery.
Kicking Bad Habits
Habits like smoking and drinking alcohol can not only lead to fertility problems in both males and females, but it can also seriously harm the baby during pregnancy. It’s a good idea to start kicking those bad habits as early as possible so that it doesn’t affect you and your partner’s chances of conceiving a child. Even drinking moderate levels of alcohol can seriously affect the chances of conception, and it’s important that you don’t secondhand smoke either, especially once you get pregnant. Recreational drugs such as marijuana should also be avoided.
Have Intercourse Every Other Day
Long periods of abstinence can decrease the quality of sperm in the male and it decreases the chance of having intercourse around the time of ovulation. There’s a fertile window which is a period where pregnancy can occur and it usually lasts for around six days. There are several methods to determine whether the woman is ovulating, so it’s always a good idea to consult a doctor on how to detect these signs so that you know when to have intercourse. There are no sexual positions that can increase the chances of conception and some lubricants are known to decrease sperm mobility so they have to be avoided.
