If you’re studying nursing, it’s probably fair to say you know that undergraduate nursing programs don’t leave you with a huge amount of free time. Even if you study online, taking an online nursing degree or an online MSN in nursing administration, you’re going to be busy. It’s vitally important that you keep healthy. It’ll help you stay alert in classes, keep your memory fresh, you’ll be less tired, and generally fitter. If you’re considering a career in some form of nursing profession, it’s incredibly important that you keep fit. Not only to help you cope with your workload, both physically and emotionally, but also to set a great example for your patients
Eat Well
It can be difficult when you’re busy, and especially living on a student budget, to eat healthily. However, it doesn’t need to be. Plan your meals before you shop. Fill them with fresh or frozen vegetables. Avoid low carb diets, you need the energy, but try to stick to the right carbs such as, brown rice and pasta or sweet potatoes. Always remember that a little of what you crave, in moderation, isn’t a bad thing. Generally, if your diet is healthy, a bit of chocolate or cake won’t hurt you once in a while.
Keep Active
Exercise is just as important to a healthy lifestyle as diet. While you may not have time or the money to hit the gym as often as you’d like, you can get plenty of exercise without spending a fortune. Why not go for a run? The fresh air will do you good, and many people claim to find it a great way to de-stress. If high impact exercise doesn’t appeal to you, walk places instead of driving or using public transport, or try a Yoga or Pilates video at home.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Sleep. A massively underrated part of staying healthy. It keeps you feeling fresh, reduces stress, boosts your immune system and helps other body functions to stay in top shape. The odd late night isn’t going to hurt, but try to get a good 8 hours when you can. If you can’t, make sure you’re at least getting plenty of rest. A good nap can go a long way to making you feel refreshed in the short term.
Drink Lots of Water
We all know we need to drink 8 glasses of water every day. But how many of us do it? Our bodies are made up of an enormous amount of water, and rehydrating is highly important when it comes to keeping it working properly. Remember, it’s not just pure water, unsweetened juice and even tea and coffee count. Just stay away from sweetened and fizzy drinks. They might give you a quick buzz, but the comedown won’t be worth it.
It’s so important to stay healthy while you’re studying. Aside from keeping you physically healthy, it will help you reduce stress and generally make your studies more enjoyable. As a nursing student, on an MSN administration course, like those from Bradley University, keeping healthy now is a vital step towards long term fitness and coping with a busy, yet rewarding career.
