Can you believe it’s 2018 already? If you’re wondering where to travel this year, this post is for you. I’ve got the down low on the hottest destinations for 2018, so you can get there before everyone else does.
Here are the top places to travel in 2018:
Albufeira, Portugal
If you’re looking for a sun-soaked yet affordable vacation, the Algarve region in Portugal is the place to be. The city of Albufeira is packed with inexpensive apartment-style hotels, fabulous beaches, and a beautiful climate. There are more than 100 nightclubs, bars, and restaurants, and a charming Old Town which boasts traditional Portuguese plazas and streets within the city center. The prices for wine and are incredibly reasonable, so be sure to try some of the famous wines from the region. Summer is still the most popular and busiest time to visit, although late spring will give you sunny weather with fewer tourists and even more affordable hotel rates. Albufeira is also a great jumping off point if you’d like to visit nearby towns like Loule which has a famous market and offers some great examples of Portuguese culture.
Zanzibar
This may sound like like an expensive honeymoon island, but it’s way more budget-friendly than you may have anticipated. Not to mention, Zanzibar is gorgeous. You can easily take the ferry between Tanzania and Zanzibar for just $35, and flights are often less than $100. Sure, there are some incredible luxury resorts like Melia Zanzibar and Tulia Zanzibar where you can splurge and enjoy some serious relaxation. But there are also some awesome budget options, and a great Airbnb will run you around $40 per night.
Saint Martin
Did you assume Saint Martin was destroyed? Sure, it was devastated by Hurricane Irma, but Saint Martin is now well on the mend, and the airport has been open since October last year. Many businesses, restaurants, bars, and beaches are now open again, however the hotels are catering to wary tourists with discounted rates, while amazing Airbnb properties are starting at just $50. Not only will this save you money, but you’ll be spending money on businesses that help locals on the island.
Barichara, Colombia
Most people don’t think of Colombia as a high-value destination, but the strong US dollar has made it one of the most compelling places to visit. Check out Barichara, which is a gorgeous colonial village in the Andes. Another great reason to visit? This isn’t a typical tourist destination, but it’s perfect if you’re an adventure traveler and love activities like paragliding.
China
From Beijing to Shanghai, Xian to Goungou, there are so many reasons why you should explore China on an amazing holiday. This is one of those places where you’ll be stepping a little outside of your comfort zone, but it will be well worth it when you interact with the locals, try the food, and soak up the culture.
