How mums can find balance this year

Finding it difficult to “do it all?” You’re not alone. For working mothers, it can feel like there are never enough hours in the day to get everything done. Unfortunately, something always seems to be put off, and for most women, their physical and mental health comes last.

Working mums have it the worst. If you’re finding it difficult to keep all of the balls in the air, here are some tips to help you find balance in 2018:

Take care of yourself

There’s never going to be enough time in the day to get it all done. But you need to take care of yourself so you can be the best mum, wife, boss, and employee. It may seem like a bit of a cliche, but you need to be able to put yourself first occasionally. There’s a reason why the flight attendants tell parents to put their own oxygen mask on first- you have to look after yourself so you can also look after your kids.

One way to do this is to schedule in time to yourself. Maybe you want to have a long brunch with friends, hit the mall, meet your bestie for coffee or treat yourself to a spa weekend. Just make sure you’re taking enough time to feel relaxed and refreshed.

Get organised

The best way to reduce stress and increase the amount of time you have in the day? Get super organised. That means keeping a family calendar with everyone’s activities and work hours on it. That way, you can see at a glance what you need to do each day.

One great way to make sure you’re organised is to take a couple of hours on a Sunday. Make a to-do list of all the things you need to accomplish and work them into your calendar. Check with your spouse and kids that nothing has changed, and make sure everyone is on the same page.

Cut the chaos

For most of us, mornings are the worst part of the day. And when mornings are chaotic, you start the day feeling stressed and anxious, and it all goes downhill from there. Instead, take some time each night to check that the kids have done their homework. Make school lunches, pack their bags, and set out their school uniforms or the outfits they’ll be wearing for the day. This is also a good thing to do for yourself so you can cut down on the amount of stress you’ll have in the morning. Also it’s important to make sure you get enough sleep in order to feel energized, refreshed and ready for another great day!
